The 11-0 Falcons faced the 11-0 Mill Creek Hawks (NN) for the right to be called the 2008 GFL Champions. With a stout defense of their own, Mill Creek were poised to be the Falcons most difficult opponent of the year.
The first quarter of the game was spent watching each offense drive about 30 yards only to have the opposing defense to halt the threat. The first quarter ended with a 0-0 tie, but with the Falcons on their best drive of the day.
With the Falcons in control of the ball to start the second quarter, Dacula's offense kept the Hawks defense off balance and scored early in the quarter for the first lead of the game. The Falcons were unable to convert on the extra point, for a 6-0 lead. On the next Mill Creek possession, the Hawks offense got rolling. With the Hawks dominanting the line of scrimmage, they were able to march down the field. On a 3rd and Goal from the 1 yard line, the Falcons gave-up their first touchdown on defense, with a Hawk rushing TD. Fortunately for the Falcons, the Hawks were unable to convert on their extra point and the score was tied at 6-6.
The third quarter was spent much like the first. Neither offense could get anything going and the defenses were flying around the field making hit after hit. When the third quarter ended the score was still tied 6-6.
The game had a feeling that overtime was inevitable. Halfway through the 4th, the Falcons started to drive the ball. With the offensive line starting to dominate the line of scrimmage and the Running Backs running with outstanding effort, the Falcons broke-off a couple of long runs. The Falcons hard work paid off with a 12 yard touchdown scamper. With an Extra Point conversion the Falcons took a late 13-6 lead.
The Hawks continued to make things interesting, but the Falcons had an answer on Defense and forced the Hawks to punt. The Falcons took the field with their second team offense. The offense successfully worked the clock down until they punted with 1:30 left in the game. The Hawks were able to execute a couple of plays but never threatened. When the final whistle blew, the Falcons were victorious with a 13-6 win and the 8 Year Old Gwinnett Football League Championship.
