Work Around the House

So...I got my first extended vacation during the week of Memorial Day. I might have been away from my job for a week, but I couldn't escape work.

Instead of going anywhere fun or doing anything relaxing I got to build a fence and mess with a new playset for the kids. The fence is a necessity. With 2 little ones (one that really likes streets) and a new doggy (Chap), we NEED a fence. If we payed someone to build the fence, the kids would have graduated High School by the time we saved the money. The only choice we had was for yours truly to do the work. One problem, I've NEVER taken part in building a fence. So, I bought a book and decided to give it my best effort.

Once I had the fence worked out on paper, it was time to dig holes, 18 holes to be exact. (Not the 18 holes I wanted to get after while on vacation.) Anyway, with the help of post hole digger, spud remover, auger and my dad we got the holes done (36" Deep) and successfully passed city inspection. Unfortunately we weren't successfull with missing any underground utilities, but nobody's hurt and that's all that matters.

As quick as we dug the holes, I filled the holes just as quick. With 18- 4"x4"x10' Posts, 600#'s of limestone gravel and 1 ton of cement, the holes were filled and my fence posts were installed.

Just in case I didn't have enough to do, I got one more task. We got the opportunity to inheret a wood playset. Now, I could have passed on the playset but the kids REALLY like it. I didn't think we should pass on a way to give the kids something more to do. So...though beat down and tired, I thought it would be best to take on one more task. With the outstanding help of the playsets original owner, his neighbor, my dad (again) and some great kids, we transported that playset and installed it right next to the swing set.

I still have some work to do on both the playset and fence, but I think the back-breaking work is done....I HOPE!
